The Eads Knowledge Bowl team traveled to CSU Pueblo on Halloween for the second round of the televised Matchwits competition. Team members Cardon Brandt, Tyler Fox and Charlie Philpy competed under the lights and cameras at the television station and came home with a win.
The team was pitted against Cotopaxi for this round of competition. The match was close from start to finish and was a nail-biter for all the spectators. Each question was worth 10 points, and the score was tied after the first round of toss-up questions. The Eads team was the first to select the category for the second round. The choices were Cities, On Time, and War. The Eads boys selected Cities and proceeded to answer as many questions as they could in 100 seconds. They scored 50 points in that round and were in the lead by 10 points after Cotopaxi finished with the On Time questions. The third round consisted of head-to-head competition against individual Cotopaxi team members. Neither team answered many of the difficult questions, but the Eads team held onto its slim lead. The final score was Eads 110:Cotopaxi 100.
The Eads team will now compete in the quarter finals against Edison. The televised showing of the first match against Wiley will air on Rocky Mountain PBS at 4:00 on November 11. The second round will be shown on January 20.
